Things we're not covering on July 8, 2008

Today's news that will not be covered in A-Rod's divorce papers:

  • John McCain has released a new ad entitled "Love," which will be one of the many biographical ads we will begin to see. This one is especially memorable as it's not so subtle subtext is: "Hey pal, while you were driving your mom's van to an Arlo Guthrie concert, I was getting hit in the face by a Vietnamese dude with the back of a rifle. And I liked it. Because I'm a bad ass." [WaPost]

  • Rep Henry Waxman is STILL trying to get documents about Valerie Plame from the AG's office. Today, he threatened to vote to hold Michael Mukasey in contempt if he did not cooperate. There is still no comment from Mukasey, though observers report that the threat has already gone out his other ear. [TPM]

  • The Daily Mail reports that the G-8 leaders recently had an 18-course dinner. Among our favorite items on the menu are the "Grilled bighand thornyhead fish with pepper sauce," "Hairy Crab bisque soup," and the "G8 'Fantasy' Desert." Incidentally, the "hairy crab" is "a famous delicacy in Shanghai cuisine, prized for the female crab's ovaries." Remember when everyone was all about President Bush because he was a "regular guy you could go out for a beer with"? [HuffPost]

  • During the Bush presidency, United States exports to Iran increased drastically. The list of major exports includes: cigarettes, brassieres, bull semen, fur clothing, sculptures, perfume, musical instruments and military apparel. One imagines that we are not exporting the finest of these products, since those are probably sold domestically, which means we've been selling them second-tier bras and bull semen for years. No wonder they're so angry with us! [CNN]
