Colin Powell's June meetings with McCain & Obama: summer lovin'?
If I squint into the distance, it'll look like I'm still undecided.
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has met with the '08 presidential candidates several times "just to talk about issues and foreign policy," according to a spokeswoman. The retired four-star general told CNN in February:
![]() | I will vote for the candidate I think can do the best job in America. Whether that candidate is a Republican or Democrat or an independent.![]() |
In other words, he keeps dropping hints he'll vote for Obama. But when asked if Powell would endorse anyone and/or get tapped as a VP soon, his flack said:
![]() | No.![]() |
Odds are Powell already had his mind made up who he likes and whether he'd join a ticket way before meeting with either Obama or McCain. Surely he couldn't care less about President George W. Bush's feelings.
So was the rep telling the truth? Was Powell was just shooting the breeze about foreign policy with the hopefuls? Otherwise, what were they really talking about? We have our suspicions.
What he talked about with White House hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain.
| THE POWELL-OBAMA MEETINGS | THE POWELL-McCAIN MEETINGS |

| Never ordering fried chicken on the campaign trail | What those little striped bars on their dress uniforms are for |
| That dick Dennis Haysbert taking way too much credit | Condi Rice jokes, including dirty ones about Condi Rice & Harriet Miers |
| What to say when fellow cabinet members lock their car windows as you pass | Whether Powell is really McCain's son |
| The embarrassing thing Joe Biden said to them today | Alternate phrasings for "100 years", like "ten decades," "36,500 days," etc. |
