Bush's Justice Department maybe not so big on the justice part
Cheer up, Dems and liberals. If the DOJ won't hire you, there's always NPR.
This week, oil topped $140 a barrel, Zimbabwe went to hell, and the Supreme Court overruled Washington D.C.'s handgun ban. The last thing we needed was a depressing-news rebound, like what a farce the U.S. Justice Department was under former Attorneys General John Ashcroft and Alberto Gonzales. But the news, like the Justice Department, loves torture, so this week, a government audit came out saying the DOJ's hiring practices in those years illegally favored conservatives. The report singled out deputy AG chief of staff Michael Elston and office counsel Esther McDonald for the bias, but both have already been canned resigned.
By now, we know they tossed out resumes with liberal buzzwords, but just how unfavorably did Elston and McDonald view leftie hopefuls? The proof's in the (legally dubious) pudding.
