Hillary Clinton: T-plus 3 days
Hit the bricks, Boomers.
On Saturday, Hillary Clinton will suspend her campaign and endorse Senator Barack Obama.
Honestly, Senator Clinton, we will miss you. But it's time to pack your bags. And take the rest of your Boomer pals with you -- George W, McCain, your husband, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, the Swiftboat Veterans. Even John Kerry. Any politician who was old enough to serve in Vietnam must go. That war both defined and ruined your generation. The rest of us are sick of hearing about your service or lack of it every presidential cycle. It's time to fight amongst yourselves in a retirement home.
Sorry, Senator Clinton, we got off topic.
But that's the point. Your primary loss isn't about your gender or his race. You and Senator Obama aren't far apart on most issues. In fact, you would make a fine president, too. But it feels like the war in Iraq, concocted by Vietnam-era chickenhawks (Bush, Cheney) and approved by Vietnam-era doves (you, Kerry), was waged as a do-over. As a Vietnam we could win. Your own vote can be seen as a calculated attempt to offset a potential presidential weakness, your "leftist" past.
Stand down.
That torch has been passed over your head. And it's gone to a guy who had no dog in that fight, because he was 12 when it ended.
