Christians not convinced McCain is one of them
The Clinton-Obama shootout has taken attention away from the fact that John McCain is having trouble with conservative voters. Republican primaries in Pennsylvania, Indiana and West Virginia have seen former candidates Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul receive up to 23% of the vote. Conservatives are suspicious of McCain's attitudes towards issues like gay marriage, abortion and immigration.
McCain has been trying to undo the damage from a report that he did not vote for George Bush in 2000. He told Fox News: "I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. And not only that, far more important than a vote, I campaigned everywhere in America for him."
Nice try. Maybe it's time for Team McCain to roll out a new campaign aimed specifically at Christian conservatives.
