Election 2008

John McCain will deny he ever asked you to pass the salt

At a dinner party shortly after the 2000 election, John McCain told Arianna Huffington that he (understandably) did not vote for George Bush. Wife Cindy added that she wrote in her husband's name. Bush secured the nomination after a particularly nasty primary season, in which McCain's adopted Bangladeshi daughter was maligned in a smear campaign engineered by Karl Rove.

McCain now denies the story, despite corroboration by others at the party, and his campaign manager Mark Salter called Huffington, "a flake and a poser and an attention-seeking diva."

What else did John McCain say to Arianna Huffington in 2000?

Do you mind if I use the c-word? Because I'd like to talk about Cindy.

If only there was a way for me to re-do the Vietnam War. I'd like to die with one in the win category.

The funny thing is, I actually do have an illegitimate black daughter.

You ever meet James Hagee? What a douche.

If you ever mention this, I'll deny it. And my people will brand you a flake and a diva and an attention-seeking diva.
