Hillary Clinton's campaign took yet another Sisyphean turn this weekend when Mark Penn, her chief strategist, stepped down from his post amid apparent conflict of interest concerns.
Penn's public relations firm, Burson-Marsteller, has a prized client list that includes media darlings Blackwater Worldwide and mortgage rapists Countrywide Financial. Penn was reportedly asked to step down after it was discovered that last week he met with officials from Colombia, who had hired his firm to secure passage of a bilateral trade treaty with the United States that Hillary opposes.
A statement from campaign manager Maggie Williams suggested that Penn stepped down voluntarily, but the following IM transcript between Clinton and Penn tells a different story:
