Heath Ledger tributes: the good, the weird and the weirder

Heath Ledger's up here, politely ignoring a few unfortunate comments.

Actor Heath Ledger's death at age 28 has prompted a worldwide outpouring of shock, sadness and moving tributes. The young star's family, former colleagues and countrymen, including Australia's prime minister, have eloquently lauded the young star's life and work, while some shared their grief on Oprah, and a couple former flames were too devastated to say a word.

Interestingly, Ledger's girlfriend, Mary-Kate Olsen, who sent over bodyguards after a hysterical masseuse called her four times, has only issued an ambiguous boilerplate statement since her flack's clarification that she did not own the apartment where Ledger was found. Classy!

23/6 has assembled this round-up of Heath Ledger tributes that left us scratching our heads, furrowing our brows, and, in the case of John Travolta's, vomiting.

Paul Sevigny

The Manhattan socialite DJ and brother of actress Chloe Sevigny barely knew Ledger, as evinced by his vague musings in the New York Times. Did the reporter beg for a reservation at Sevigny's ultra-hip restaurant in exchange for a mention in the paper of record? Take note:

[Ledger] had clashed with paparazzi in Australia, but in New York, where there is no shortage of problem-causing partygoers, 'he certainly wasn't one of them,' said Paul Sevigny, an owner of the Beatrice Inn, a West Village club that Mr. Ledger frequented. 'He was really polite and nice,' said Mr. Sevigny.
Sean "Diddy" Combs

The rap mogul rambled fondly in an interview with Access Hollywood about getting to know Ledger when they worked together on "Monster's Ball", especially his "whisperin' voice", but faltered disappointingly in describing his reaction to learning of Ledger's death:

I heard the news the other day and I was definitely, it definitely, like, struck me, you know.
John Travolta

Speaking at a Broadway gala in New York Tuesday, the "Hairspray" star couldn't resist slipping his own achievements into his remarks about Ledger, telling the audience,

I would give back all of my awards and my nominations just to have him back again...

Unable to stop himself, he also told Woman's Day Magazine that not only did Ledger and he admire each other's work,

I was an idol of his...

Heath, wherever you are...we're sorry.
