Not so fast: Iran halted nuclear weapons program

President Bush taps a few times on his brain and voilĂ : He's got his own NIE report.

A just-released National Intellignce Estimate on Iran's nuclear weapons program contradicts the Bush administrations claims that Iran was in the throes of developing big-ass nuclear weapons.

In a press conference today, President Bush said, "The NIE provides an opportunity for us to rally the international community—to continue to rally the community—to pressure the Iranian regime to suspend its program." In other words, the fact that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 is a positive development because, well...it will make Iran halt their nuclear weapons program.

Although the report is widely available on the Web, look for the revised version, edited by the State Department, to be released soon.
