Bush Leaving the Next President with an "As Is" Country, a Fixer Upper

Sybil Adelman Sage | Bio

George Bush, most people agree, has caused our country to deteriorate during his terms of office so catastrophically that if the country were up for sale, it would be referred to as, "a fixer upper; as is."

This president has no qualms about turning over his mess: a war costing some 4,000 American lives with tens of thousands wounded as well as a financial loss of around $3 trillion. Harry Reid put the cost at $5,000 per second, well beyond what even my most indulgent, Barneys-shopping friends are capable of spending.

And just as we often wonder, "Who'd want to buy that house?" we have three candidates battling to get their hands on the country. We can be sure that Bush will not be setting out flowers or baking chocolate chip cookies to present a more appealing White House to his successor. No, this guy will ride off into the Texas sunset, leaving the trash to be picked up by #44.
