This Week in Rap Music: You, Me and Jermaine Dupri |
It's Thanksgiving week. And I would like to give thanks to rap music for all that it has given me. Particularly, 700 words I can use to refer to women who aren't wearing many clothes.
The Notorious B.I.G. wrongful death lawsuit continues with the court allowing even more defendants/suspects to be added to the trial. First of all, who HASN'T been implicated in the murder of Biggie Smalls at this point? My grandmother got served a subpoena last week because she told someone that Brooklyn has really gone down the tubes since the Italians moved out.
And let's take a look at who's being added to the case....SUGE KNIGHT? Talk about rounding up the usual suspects. Suge Knight is the joke you make when you're like, "Yo, son, who are they gonna arrest next? Suge Knight?" and some other person is like, "Yeah, kid. That's mad funny because Suge Knight is famous for his numerous legal indiscretions, and so a good joke would be to say that he is also being implicated in this case." Leave Suge Knight alone for Thanksgiving, please.
T.I. is doing his best to get out of court right now. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, he is giving away 400 turkeys and asking the judge to rule favorably on his motion to get rid of the evidence in his criminal trial, which is kind of a bold move when the case is entirely based on your possession of weapons. I have been following this case closely, as you can see from this graphic on my Yahoo News page:

So don't worry, I have it covered.
Here's something out of left field: Lil' Romeo signed a letter of intent to play basketball at USC. He must have gotten tall since I stopped paying attention to him ten years ago. Of course, Master P's claim to fame was his four nonconsecutive preseason weeks he played for the Charlotte Hornets and the Toronto Raptors. Oh wait, no, he's famous for being awesome at rap. Wouldn't you rather be out in your hummer buying grills with Jesus' face in diamonds on them than screwing around in the CBA?
But I'm thankful to see another hip-hop star going to a mostly white college. Where I went to college there were a lot of white people and the only time rappers came was for a concert the undergraduate government was using to try to exemplify the "diversity" of the student body.
Lastly, I want to give a shout out to my colleague who, as of this month is also blogging about rap music, but for our partners, the Huffington Post. Maybe you've heard of him. His name is JERMAINE DUPRI. Yeah, that Jermaine Dupri.
Next week, we'll start making our Christmas lists in anticipation of the gift-giving season. Happy Thanksgiving, son.
