Fox News: Baby Mama Drama

John Knefel | Bio

Yesterday afternoon the Fox News Channel intelligently referred to Michelle Obama as Barack Obama's "baby mama." Now, I'm sure some on the left are going to get all up in arms about the use of this sexist, racially-insensitive term, but I see it as a positive step in the right direction for the FNC.

How could this be, you ask? I see the Fox News Channel as an island of cultural isolation, like China, or my beloved home state of Iowa. Sometimes in Iowa, it takes a little longer for black culture to really take hold. I imagine the Fox News room, though it is located in New York City, is even farther behind the curve. Like...Thriller is new. That type of behind.

The only POSSIBLE explanation (other than explicit race-baiting) for FNC's cavalier use of "baby mama" to refer to a black man's wife is that two associate producers had a conversation like this:

Associate Producer 1: Hey, do you know about The OutCasts?
Associate Producer 2: Wow! I just heard their brand new song Ms. Jackson. That song just came out like, yesterday, right?!
AP1: Yeah! I have only the slightest idea what that song is about!
AP2: ME TOO!

[They are very excited about their new discovery.]

AP1
: What's a baby mama?
AP2: I don't know, but I LOVE THAT BEAT!
AP1: Hey, check it out. [singing] "I AM FO' REAL!"
AP2: THAT'S WHAT THEY SAY IN THAT TOTALLY NEW SONG!
AP1: Hey!
AP2: What?!
AP1: I love that new song so much I want to start using words from it!
AP2: That's a flawless idea!

[They are dancing around they are so excited]

AP1: Let's start calling every mother a baby mama!
AP2: GREAT! Let's start with Michelle Obama!
AP1: I don't see any problems with that at all!

And that's how the Fox News Channel decided to call Michelle Obama, mother, and wife of potentially the first African-American president, a "baby mama."
