Why Barack Obama May Not Be Ready to Campaign in the South

Jacob Dickerman | Bio

OK. So he's not a Muslim. I know that. I get that. He's trying. He's getting ready to go down South and tell them why he's the best choice for president, and that's great. But he did something lately that shows he might not know as much about the south as maybe he ought to. In order to dispel fears that he's a Muslim, Barack Obama asked a bunch of Jews to speak up for him.

Barack, Barack, Barack... they don't know what Jews are in the South. Trust me, I've been there. When I was in college, the first thing most folks would tell me, once they learned I'd been snipped by a Moyl, was "You're the first Jewish boy I've ever met!" Jews, on the whole, don't live in the south (except Florida, but that's really more a mausoleum than a community). It's not that we aren't there at all, but we do tend to have a lesser presence below the Mason Dixen.

Things aren't as bad as they used to be. They no longer believe that Jews kill their young at Passover (where did they think the profit margin in that was?). They do still worry about us taking over media and government (well someone had to...), and they still believe that we're all going to hell, even though, you know, we are the chosen people.

I guess what I'm trying to say, Barack, is that maybe you're not quite ready for the South. It's not about racism, it's about recognizing that it's a different culture down there. And part of that culture, if you've been declared a heathen Muslim, don't give them a letter from six heathen Jews and think that it makes you look safe to them.
